The Homeboy Review Submission Guidelines

What we are looking for:

We seek work of the highest literary quality, but otherwise do not have any specific guidelines for style or subject matter. Short stories, poems and personal essays/memoirs are welcome. Novel excerpts are acceptable if self-contained. We do not publish book reviews unless we have solicited them. Translations are welcome if permission has been granted.

Format Guidelines

Please submit one prose piece and up to three poems. Poems should be individually typed either single- or double-spaced on one side of the page. Prose should be typed double-spaced on one side and be no longer than thirty pages. Manuscripts should be 12-point font, in a readable script (Times New Roman or Courier) with one-inch margins. Please include your name, contact information and brief bio information (50 words or less) that may include mention of awards and previous publications. Homeboy Press welcomes unpublished writers.

How to Submit

You may submit by email to leslies@homeboy-industries.org as an attachment. Please confirm receipt, however, if you have not heard back from us as email can be glitchy. You may also send submissions by U.S. Mail to Homeboy Press, c/o Norma Gillette, 130 W. Bruno St. Los Angeles, CA 90012. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope for our reply. If you want your manuscript back, please include enough postage on your SASE or we will not return it.

Restrictions:

Homeboy Review is an open, community literary magazine and as such we have few restrictions. We welcome new writers as well as established writers and are open to any content as long as it is of the highest literary merit. Please note, that in order to keep things running smoothly, we ask that you send only one manuscript at a time, either by mail or online. Do not send duplicate or multiple submissions. Simultaneous submissions to other journals are okay with us. We do not reprint previously published work except on occasion when we may re-publish work that has been out of print.

Notifications and Queries

We are a small staff and receive many submissions and queries a week. Please give us three to five months to respond to your submissions and query letters.

Payment

Payment is three copies of the magazine upon publication.
